Life Coaching and New Year’s Resolutions

Can you remember your New Year’s resolution from last year? After indulging in the holidays, it is no wonder why the start of a new year is a pinnacle time for many to set goals and new beginnings. Commonalities exist for many who wish to lose weight, eat healthier and live a holistic life. When we are presented with this topic, we are primed to share with those around us what our new intentions are for improvement at the start of the new year. Did you know that despite this enthusiasm, “80% of New Year’s resolutions fail by February”? This cycle later repeats in the lives of those that make up the 80%, year-in and year-out.

What Happens to Our Goals

What transpires from the time that we set out to achieve a new goal each year to falling short and becoming a statistic only weeks into our new journey? The short answer here is accountability. When we look at a sport (choose your favorite), we consider the dynamics of the relationship of a coach to their team. “A sports coach helps people participating in sports to work towards achieving their full potential.” The coach nor the team make matter of the time of the year. In the moment, the main concern is the upcoming game or the next goal to achieve.

Who is Your Coach as an Adult

In our adult lives, there are seldom times when we are situated with such levels of accountability. Perhaps we set out to achieve a goal such as a New Year’s resolution to lose 20 pounds in the coming year. The problem for those 80% is that someone is not holding them accountable to lose the weight. It isn’t likely that the friend or family member who you voiced this goal to at the end up the year is even going to remember that you told them.

Celebrities and Life Coaches

The platform of life coaching has taken off substantially in recent years. This is because those who have decided to invest money in themselves (many for the first time in their life) are seeing incredible results. A life coach acts as a similar support system to that of a sports coach. By guiding their clients to set and achieve new goals, individuals are experiencing growth and success like they never thought possible. “Celebrities like Oprah Winfrey, Metallica, Serena Williams, Leonardo DiCaprio, Bill Clinton, Hugh Jackman and Andrew Agassi are leading the trend.” They can attest to the impactful experiences of how accountability with life coaches has improved their lives despite their previous success.

It is Time to Invest in You

A New Year’s resolution for everyone should start with a unison mantra: it is time to invest in you. I first recommend buying yourself a yearly planner. If you are serious about making impactful changes in your life, you must have someone to hold you accountable. Certainly, life coaching is proven time and time again to provide clients with substantial results. If you are not yet sold on the idea of life coaching, it is important to choose someone already in your life to use as a support system. Check in with that person and inform them of your next plan of action. This will create a respectful relationship where you will refuse to fail because you won’t want to disappointment your support system. This level of accountability will further result in allowing you to produce real results in your life.

Create Your Path Now

As you ponder on your New Year’s resolution, consider how you will find ways to be held accountable to the actions that you must take to achieve your goals. Start out small and create a road-map that will take you from where you are now to where you wish to go. You are worth it and you deserve all of the great things that you want in your own life.
